The continuous outrageous claims of Rick Santorum usually leave me to ignore the articles and comments of all things Rick. Its easy enough to do. All I have to hear is a few key words, or some sound bites.
Incredulous political pundits and their tones of voice are enough to keep me from getting wrapped up in Ricks World.
This week its a little different. He's talking environmentalism. Religious environmentalism.
Like everything else, he's bucking the trend of knowing what he's talking about. It's really a shame, because when it comes to environmentalism, this administration could be no further from religious idealism when talking about nature and the valuable resources that we as citizens own.
If it wasn't for a little thing called hypocrisy of idealism's he could be scoring mega points!
But Rick can't tell you the truth!
It exposes partisan hypocrecy! Of the Republicans AND the Obama administration!
The issue of religious environmentalism misses the mark. It's Free Market environmentalism.
Privatization. Commodity creation. Wealth generating Eco-capitalism. For Wall St 1%ers.
Republicans seem to really like privatization! Prisons, Highways, SSI, Medicaid, you name it, they like it! And they LOVE Wall St!
Democrats oppose privatization of anything, right? Goes against the moral grain. I thought.
It turns out almost everything, but not quite everything.
As the Obama administration does exactly what Republicans love, privatize, in this case the citizens resource, fish, they are doing exactly what the progressive base oppose's! They are creating a trade-able Wall St commodity for Wall St traders, and investment opportunity for huge multi national corporations to swallow up the last of the Mohican's, in this case U S fishermen.
Rick finds himself in a perfect situation to expose the Obama administration as the environmental profiteer capitalists they really are, but as a capitalist, he can't! He would expose himself as a hypocrite!
Which brings up another hypocrisy, the Obama administration and it's free market environmentalist cabinet support of the Wall St 1%!
Environmentalism is a broad philosophy, ideology[1][2][3] and social movement regarding concerns for environmental conservation and improvement of the health of the environment, particularly as the measure for this health seeks to incorporate the concerns of non-human elements. Environmentalism advocates the preservation, restoration and/or improvement of the natural environment, and may be referred to as a movement to control pollution.[4] For this reason, concepts such as a Land Ethic, Environmental Ethics, Biodiversity, Ecology and the Biophilia hypothesisfigure predominantly. At its crux, environmentalism is an attempt to balance relations between humanity and their broader organismic and biogeochemical milieu in such a way that all the components are accorded a proper degree of respect. The exact nature of this balance is controversial and there are many different ways for environmental concerns to be expressed in practice. Environmentalism and environmental concerns are often represented by the color green,[5] but this association has been appropriated by the marketing industries and is a key tactic in the art of Greenwashing.
Free market environmentalism is a theory that argues that the free market, property rights, and tort law provide the best tools to preserve the health and sustainability of the environment. It considers environmental stewardship to be natural, as well as the expulsion of polluters and other aggressors through individual and class action.[30]
Evangelical environmentalism is an environmental movement in the United States in which some Evangelicals have emphasized biblical mandates concerning humanity's role as steward and subsequent responsibility for the caretaking of Creation. While the movement has focused on different environmental issues, it is best known for its focus of addressing climate action from a biblically grounded theological perspective. The Evangelical Climate Initiative argues that human-induced climate change will have severe consequences and impact the poor the hardest, and that God's mandate to Adam to care for the Garden of Eden also applies to evangelicals today, and that it is therefore a moral obligation to work to mitigate climate impacts and support communities in adapting to change.[31]

The sad part of this situation is that there are a number of experiencedmembers of the GOP that could school Mr. Santorum on this issue, but, there appears to be a disconnect between he, and his party. Hell. There are Democrats that work in bi partisan fashion along side of them that have serious issues with the administration regarding free market environmentalism. They realize it will hurt their constituents, whom they serve. In this case consumers, and producers, and the community's they live in. The 99%.
I do watch msnbc at times. I saw the stunned looks of Chris Todd, Andrea Mitchell, and the rest, when they bought up the religious environmental issue while on the air. They were astounded, as was I.
And once again, disappointed.
