KITTERY, Maine — Four firefighters were injured last night while battling a fire aboard the USS Miami nuclear-powered attack submarine dry-docked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard — but the reactor was not involved, Navy officials told the Herald.
“The fire is located in a forward compartment of the ship. The ship’s reactor was not operating at the time and is not affected,” the Navy reported in a release to the Herald
The Navy confirmed four injuries were reported.
One individual was treated and released on the scene, officials said. Three others were taken to a hospital for observation and were released.
Firefighters were initially called to the shipyard just before 6 p.m. for a report of a fire on a ship in dry dock.
