EXETER — The man who allegedly caused the hepatitis C outbreak at Exeter Hospital may have also infected two patients in Kansas.
From May 2010 to September 2010, David Kwiatkowski worked at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan. As a result of the hepatitis C outbreak at Exeter Hospital, officials at Hayes Medical Center urged patients who had procedures at that facility's cardiac catheterization laboratory from May 24, 2010, to Sept. 22, 2010, to get tested.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced in a prepared statement that it has identified two patients who tested positive for hepatitis C "with a strain that is closely related to the cluster of patients in New Hampshire."
In the Exeter Hospital hepatitis C outbreak, 31 patients have tested positive for the same strain of the disease carried by Kwiatkowski
